Party 6 - 6:45pm, Concert 6:45
Legendary rockers 38 Special take the stage at Navy Pier’s Grand Ballroom during this year’s free IGC Show Classic Rock Concert Wednesday evening. After more than three decades and 15 albums together, 38 Special continues to bring its signature blast of southern rock to more than 100 cities each year. At every show, thousands of audience members are amazed by the explosive power of the performance. The band’s numerous gold and platinum albums stand in testament to the endurance of this legendary rock powerhouse.
With record sales in excess of 20 million, 38 Special is known for its arena-rock pop smashes, including Hold On Loosely, Rockin’ Into the Night, Caught Up in You, Fantasy Girl, If I’d Been the One, Back Where You Belong, Chain Lightnin’ and Second Chance - timeless hits that remain a staple on radio, immediately recognizable from the first opening chord.
The co-founders of the group, vocalist Donnie Van Zant and guitarist/vocalist Don Barnes, say it’s all about maintaining that intensity in their live shows. “We never wanted to be one of those bands that had maybe gotten a little soft or complacent over the years,” Barnes says. “We’re a team, and it’s always been kind of an unspoken rule that we don’t slack up, we stack up. We go out there every night to win.”
